A true Wellington institution in the heart of the city. Delicious food, friendly staff and plenty of space for the kids to roam - are you getting excited yet?! Southern Cross is a great place to take the kids without worrying if your toddlers will be too noisy (send them outside) or will they sit still (just send them outside). On the weekends, this delightful eatery really turns on the kiddy-charm with a range of activities to keep the little ones entertained including colouring in, toys and face painting. And sip on this, on Thursday’s there is a comfy corner set up for parents to chill out, socialise and enjoy a FREE 10 minute back, neck and shoulder massage from a professional massage therapist!
This bright and friendly cafe is a Wellington favourite when the sun is out! The menu is simple and delicious but the real jewel in the crown is the outside play area that is jam-packed with ride-on toys, a trampoline and climbing frames. But parents and caregivers beware...there is no fence...so be prepared to enjoy your mocha ‘on the go’.
Located on the ground floor of Te Papa Tongarewa, this cafe is the perfect place to refuel before or after a visit to our national museum. There is delicious cabinet food and a full menu including a kids menu but what’s really special about this cafe is its kids area! At the far end of the cafe there are toys (with tables nearby so you can keep an eye on your little ones). Plenty of high chairs (wooden Mocka style) and a parents room.
Right at the entrance of Wellington Zoo you will find this spacious cafe complete with great food (including a kids menu), toys for the kids, and a Pygmy Marmoset Exhibit! There is a parents room available at the zoo reception area.

Located in the centre of Johnsonville, Common Ground Cafe is the perfect place to take kids. It is directly next door to the pool, the library and a wonderful playground (not fenced!). Equipped with a kids' menu, highchairs and plenty of coffee, this makes for a lovely excuse to get out of the house with the kiddos.
